Hangzhou and Denver

These two cities compare for a number of reasons, especially being known for their beauty and their energy sectors.  Both cities are known for their high level of education, advanced technology industries, comparative wealth and cleaner environment.  The West Lake of Hangzhou has been celebrated by Authors and Poets for the last 1,200 years.  Likewise, many an artist has painted, sang and wrote about the Beautiful Rocky Mountains.  There are countless businesses that operate within these cities, but perhaps the best known is the Alibaba Group.  Yes, that one!

 

Hangzhou

  • Population - 5.5 million
  • Location - The capital of the Zhejiang Province at the South Terminus of the Grand Canal in the Yangtze Delta roughly 100 miles from Shanghai.
  • Fun Fact - In the 13th century, Marco Polo called Hangzhou "the most splendid and luxurious city in the world.

Denver 

  • Population - 663,000
  • Location - East of the Rocky Mountains where Cherry Creek and the South Platte Rivers meet.
  • Fun Fact - The first permanent structure in Denver was not a hospital, bank or house, it was a saloon.  This tradition carries over today as Denver brews more beer than in any other city in the nation, with over 200 different beers brewed daily.
