Shanghai and New York City

Kicking off our education month is one of the easiest comparison's we have between cities in the US and China, which is Shanghai and New York City.  The similarities are long between the two cities, largest by population, shopping and tourism capital, international business center, known for financial services and real estate.  These are just a few of the many similarities between these countries, but the list goes on.  What does this mean to your business?  Are you a high end consumer goods company trying to figure out what market to enter, this is probably the place.  Do you focus on financial services and want the exposure of a Wall Street or a Pudong?  If this is what you are looking for, this is probably the place for you.  And if you want some of the best food in their respective countries, look no further than Shanghai and New York City.

Shanghai

  • Population - 20+ million
  • Location - A municipality on the east tip of the Yangtze River Delta and roughly halfway along China's eastern coastline.
  • Famous Citizen - Perhaps the most widely known non-politician between the two countries Mr. Yao Ming

New York

  • Population - 8.5 million
  • Location - Northeast US located at the mouth of the Hudson River in southern New York State
  • Fun Fact - New York City has the largest Chinese population of any city outside of Asia.
